Summer Treats

Summer is really summering over here in the Midwest 🥵, and the Mwania house is loaded up with yummy ways to cool down (without overdoing it on the budget or sugar rushes!)

First, every morning that I make smoothies (like today), I make a couple extra batches to fill our popsicle molds.  They are full of the good stuff like yogurt and fruit and maple syrup or raw honey if we were out of bananas that morning.   They make a great snack for hot afternoons but they also make a great summer breakfast.

I also try to keep this healthy lemonade on hand all the time.  I got the recipe from my YouTube friend, Julie Kreke.  1/4 cup lemon juice (I often use cubes of it that I have frozen!), one teaspoon vitamin C crystals, and 1/2 teaspoon stevia powder.  This is nice to cool off with and I know it not only does not have junk…it’s actually good for them!

My last go-to is frozen fruit. Just plain old frozen fruit!  Frozen berries, mixed fruit, any kind really.  Not sure why my kids love it so much, but they do!  If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll whip up some popcorn to serve along side it.

I hope some of these ideas might be helpful for you during these long, hot days. Most of us will be praying for these temperatures when winter is back so try to enjoy it!
